چکیده

In this paper we present a non conventional joint data demodulation-pseudo-noise (PN) code tracking scheme for direct sequence (D8) spread-spectrum (88) signals which solves problems of components imbalance and sensitivity with a remarkable hardware simplicity and no performance degradation. An integrate-and-dump Costas loop is employed for carrier recovery and data demodulation of the 88 signal. Both data and carrier are then used to derive the baseband error signal of the code tracking loop. Moreover, a single passband correlator is used to perform the early-late correlation, leading to a hardware complexity equivalent to that of the tau-dither scheme, but without its loss in performance. Results of a thorough theoretical analysis of the system in an AWGN environment are reported. We provide performance curves in terms of steady-state jitter and mean time to first lock loss. A superior jitter performance for low values of Ebl No with respect to a traditional noncoherent DLL is shown, along with the potential gain of Manchester coding upon the more usual NRZ format.

A digital chip timing recovery loop for band-limited direct-sequence spread-spectrum signals

Migration towards a full-digital implementation of modems is currently one of the main trends in transmission systems design. In this paper we describe a non coherent a11digital delay lock loop (DDLL) suited for chip timing synchronization in band-limited direct sequence spread spectrum (DS/SS) systems, and we thoroughly analyze its performance. The key features of this novel scheme are represe...

Half-sine and triangular despreading chip waveforms for coherent delay-locked tracking in DS/SS systems

The performance of a coherent delay-locked tracking scheme for direct-sequence/spread-spectrum systems using half-sine or triangular chip waveforms for early and late despreading sequences is analyzed. The effect of band-limiting on the received signals is considered. Mean time to lose lock (MTLL) and root mean square (rms) tracking error of the delay-locked loop (DLL) are compared with that of...

Rayleigh Fading Channels

PN code tracking is one of the most important factors that affect the performance of spread spectrum receivers. It is desirable to maintain PN code tracking for a long period of time and with high accuracy. This paper presents a non-coherent digital delay-locked loop (DLL) for code tracking in direct-sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) systems. The proposed technique utilizes three non-coherent co...

Performance Degradation Due to Code Tracking Errors in Spread-Spectrum Code-Division Multiple-Access Systems

The influence of code synchronization errors on the performance of direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS/SS) communication systems is investigated. Insight is gained in the degradation of some basic performance parameters due to the tracking bias of a noncoherent delay lock loop (DLL). The performance parameters investigated are the bit-error probability, throughput and delay. Numerical results s...

A Scheme on PN Code Tracking of DS/FH Signals for Telemetry, Tracking, and Commanding (TT&C)

The impact of Doppler frequency hopping on code tracking performance is simulated. A design on pseudonoise (PN) Code Tracking Loop aided by the carrier tracking loop according to the carrier frequency hoping pattern is proposed in this paper. This scheme can be applied in the Telemetry, Tracking, and Commanding system which uses Direct Sequence/Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (DS/FH) hybrid s...
